GERB is trying to assimilate and to politicize the rescue of Bulgarian Jews

01.03.2013

Today all MEPs, among them and I, received an invitation from Mr. Kovachev, head of the Bulgarian delegation in EPP , to be a guests at the opening of an exhibition, dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the rescue of Bulgarian Jews. The important issues for Bulgaria have always sought unity in the European Parliament, and I think this occasion deserved national, istead of party coverage, moreover, that such were the initila intentions. But even more surprising in this invitation is the fact, that the symbol next to the Group of the European People’s Party has placed the Bulgarian coat of arms, with coorganizer Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Under the patronage of the same group will speak Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev, together with the President of Israel Mr. Shimon Peres.

So in this context ask myself some questions:

1.Why Ministry of Foreign Affairs, after the initial contacts with the main political groups in the European Parliament for the joint organization of the event, decided to put itself in the service of GERB and EPP? And whether Mr. Perez knows that he will attend at a party, not at a national event? The politicization of this ministry has reached historic heights in the mandate of today’s ever-more-Minister Mladenov, but this case passes the limits of the elementary decency.

2. How President Plevneliev, who claiming to be a President of all Bulgarians, accept his placement in party-political context on one occasion, which is the embodiment of the unity of the Bulgarian people and 70 years later privatizing for party purposes?

Furthermore, this is not the first time when those who supposedly represent all Bulgarians, speaking in the European Parliament under the party symbols – last year the Vice President Popova participated at a similar forum in which representatives of the Bulgarians, who live abroad, talking with her under the purple heart of EPP.

It seems once again its confirms the folk wisdom that “The wolf changes his coat, but not his disposition”. To put yourself and your position in favor of private interestsq not in national interests – this is the diagnosis of Political Party GERB.
