The Bulgarian minority in Moldova is a natural connection between the two countries

08.10.2013

Bulgaria considers the Bulgarian minority in the Republic of Moldova as natural connection between our two countries. This was said by Minister of Foreign Affairs Kristian Vigenin during his meetings with representatives of the Bulgarian community in the capital Chișinău and the city of Taraklia - center of the Bulgarian-populated administrative district in the southern part of the country. Vigenin, who is on an official two-day visit to Moldova, expressed hope that the socio-economic situation of the community will continue to improve under a united, independent, sovereign and European Moldova.

During his talks with the community representatives, Minister Vigenin confirmed Bulgaria’s support for the preservation and development of our identity, and the need of it to be part of our active support for the European integration of Moldova. According to the Minister, Bulgaria will continue to cooperate with the Government of Moldova in support of the Bulgarian minority in the country and will work for the long-term preservation and development of our customs, culture and education. Kristian Vigenin shared these intentions with his official interlocutors in Chișinău. He discussed with them the involvement of the Moldovan Government in the preservation of the identity and the protection of the linguistic, cultural and civil rights of the Bulgarian community as it became clear during the talks in Chișinău and Taraklia.

During the meetings, Minister Vigenin bestowed awards by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to representatives of the Bulgarian community in the Republic of Moldova - prominent figures that have made an outstanding contribution to the dissemination and promotion of the Bulgarian education and culture, as well as of the Bulgarian spiritual presence abroad.
