30.10.2012

Kristian Vigenin is visiting Serbia and Kosovo, as head of the six-member delegation of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the European Parliament (AFET).

During the visit to Belgrade, MEPs held meetings with Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia, Ivica Dacic, Deputy Prime Ministers Aleksandar Vucic and Suzana Grubjesic, President of the National Assembly Nebojsa Stefanovic, Head of Delegation of the European Union in the country Vincent Degert , William Infante - Resident Representative of the United Nations team in Serbia, and other government officials.

At the meetings with the representatives of the Progressive Party, a leading party in the ruling coalition, Kristian Vigenin emphasized the importance of building competent administration for management of EU funds. "Countries which each new government replaced a professional staff, relying more on political loyalty and less competence, today are already in the queue and can not take advantage of the European Union," said the MEP.

Vigenin, who is also Rapporteur of the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) said: “We also concluded that the Commission should make the Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance more flexible and allow it to be tailored to the needs of the beneficiary countries. It should also simplify and reduce the administrative procedures so that Serbia can take full advantage of the IPA.”

MEPs expressed their satisfaction that the first hundred days of the new government of Serbia, it has demonstrated with concrete actions its commitment to continue the European integration. In connection with some inappropriate statements of President Tomislav Nikolic, the head of the delegation stressed that they affect on the political and social environment and should not be overlooked. "But I can guarantee that we will evaluate Serbia's progress on the works of the government, not on their words," said Vigenin.
