Kristian Vigenin awards Peter Petrov – the hero sailor from the ship Costa Concordia

“This award deserves a great attention. In the beginning of the year, news reports were opening with footage of a half-sunk Concordia - a ship filled with citizens of many countries. All of Europe lived in fear of the fate of Costa Concordia. Days later we understood that the mechanic on the ship - a bulgarian helped almost 500 people, stated Kristian Vigenin on awarding Peter Petrov.
 
Amongst the present were: President of the National Assembly – Tsetska Tsacheva, Bulgarian EU Commissioner – Kristalina Georgieva, MEP Vladimir Uruchev, many M.P.`s, Ambassadors, representatives of NGO`s.
 
The mechanic Peter Petrov is one of the 37 winners which were chosen by a special jury.
The award “European of Year”, is bestowed each year in the form of an honorary medal and has only symbolic value. It is awarded only for outstanding achievements or actions in favor of Europe and betterment of the mutual understanding amongst european citizens. The nomination for Peter Petrov was submitted by the Bulgarian MEP Kristian Vigenin. The members of the national jury were: Andrey Kovatchev, Evgeni Kirilov and Stanimir Ilchev.
