The Government has taken its responsibility for the refugee problem

09.10.2013

We have put maximum efforts to familiarize our partners in the EU and the international organizations with the problems related to the increased refugee flow to Bulgaria. We will obtain the maximum support that is possible at this stage, said Foreign Minister Kristian Vigenin in an interview with BNR.

The primary responsibility for finding a solution to this situation is ours, he said. Minister Vigenin added that is depends on us to utilize in the most efficient way the expertise and resources that will be provided.

According to the Foreign Minister, the refugee issue is important enough to be subject of discussion within the National Security Advisory Council. "The question is not only expert but also political and it is necessary to send clear messages to the Bulgarian people," he said. Minister Vigenin stressed that the government has taken its responsibility for the problem of Syrian refugees.

“The Prime Minister and all the ministers put maximum efforts for solving the big problems of the country and overall they manage to deal with them," he said. According to him, yesterday's decision of the Constitutional Court on the case "Peevski" cannot justify a request for early termination of the government's work.

Foreign Minister was certain that the information, released today by the opposition on the suspension of EU funds for Bulgaria, is quite exaggerated. "There is no reason for concern. There is no suspended money, the issue is related to a particular project and the problems are associated with the unfinished business of the previous government,” he said.

Kristian Vigenin outlined the highlights of his recent visit to Moldova. "There were two main objectives of my visit. One was our desire to deepen the bilateral relations, including those related to our joint responsibilities to the Bulgarian minority in Moldova," he said. The other objective was to discuss the upcoming Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius, where important agreements with the EU are expected to be signed.

"Bulgaria supports the European path of the Republic of Moldova and will insist on the fastest pace of agreements," the Foreign Minister said. According to him, a recent conclusion of the preparatory phase towards transition to a visa-free regime for Moldovan citizens is in the interest of our country. "This will facilitate not only the tourism, but also our relations with the Bulgarians in Moldova," he explained.

Minister Vigenin commented on the current status of the ongoing negotiations between Bulgaria and the Republic of Macedonia on the Good-Neighbor Treaty. “The negotiation process continues in the most candid spirit. I remain optimistic. The problems seem complex, but their solution is in the interest of both countries ", he said, adding that this treaty will ensure that relations between the two countries will be based on European values.
