Members of Euronest insisted current resources to support the Eastern Partnership to be maintained in the next EU budget

23.10.2012

In a special conference held in Strasbourg the members of the EU delegation to the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly and the chairman of the delegation Kristian Vigenin discussed the ongoing negotiations on the next EU financial framework.

The MEPs spoke with Eduard Kukan - rapporteur for European Neighbourhood Instrument (ENI) and Ivaylo Kalfin, rapporteur for the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) for the need to separate the necessary funds to conduct the European Neighbourhood Policy and and especially in relations with the member states of the Eastern Partnership (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine).

According to the MEPs, it is of interest for the EU to support the development of a stable and democratic society in the neighboring countries that share European values . To achieve this goal, the EU should be ready to take on the political and financial responsibility that requires commitment, which is undertaken in accordance with the new approach of the European Commission "more for more".

In this context, MEPs insisted in the negotiations for the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF), covering the period from 2014 to 2020, funds, provided to support neighboring countries, to be maintained at least at the same amount. Members of Euronest Parliamentary Assembly addressed the same appeal in its official position, which was adopted and sent to the negotiators to the EU budget by the European Commission, the European Parliament and the EU Council on 17 October this year.

At a session of The Conference of Delegation Chairs today, was adopted calendar with sessions, scheduled in 2014. Among them, a proposal by Kristian Vigenin, Chairman of the delegation to the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly, were approved in addition to the regular meetings of the Assembly and its committees and working groups, a seminar of the Energy Committee, organized in Vilnius on the occasion of the Latvia`s EU presidency and seminar of the Economic integration Committee in Chisinau, that would consider the technical aspects of the harmonization of legislation in the member states of Euronest.

The next session of Euronest Parliamentary Assembly will be held in Brussels on 28 - 29 May 2014.
