Minister Vigenin held talks with his Romanian counterpart Titus Corlăţean

On 8 October 2013, Minister of Foreign Affairs Kristian Vigenin held talks with his Romanian counterpart Titus Corlăţean. The discussion focused on topical issues of bilateral relations, as well as on priority topics of the European agenda.

The ministers discussed the Bulgaria and Romania's accession to the Schengen Area and reiterated that the two countries have met the conditions for achieving this objective. The two have rejected any connection between the Schengen accession and other topics, such as the Roma issue.

Bulgarian Foreign Minister and his Romanian counterpart have agreed to continue their efforts at EU level to ensure a favorable decision on the accession of Bulgaria and Romania to the Schengen Area, in full compliance with the European principles and rules.

Foreign Ministers Kristian Vigenin and Titus Corlăţean reaffirmed their commitment to ensure conducting a successful Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius on 28-29 November, by completing the process of signing and initialling the Association Agreements and the Deep and Compressive Free Trade Agreement and to assist the Eastern Partners in the process of political association and economic integration with the EU.
